The video clip discusses a response to Joey's video clip, "Looking At the Bigger Picture", a Zen story, "Successor", and its interpretation — how does it apply to the deaf people.

Teri –
May God help me! I did not post my comment on Joey Baer’s vlog ’cause it is way too complicated about the leadership style. But, but, but could be too political leadership…..Look at the leadership style at Congress in Wash. D.C……..I would never understand the way they do……
Hope you get out from the bed. Glad your family have taken care of themselves while you were under the weather.
Hope your’e feeling better.

I agree with you that there are many deaf people with hidden talents. It is a good idea to set up a leadership program for older deaf people. That may help them become better leaders or successors. It is really interesting how you use Zen story with the issue. Keep up the good job.

I’m with you, White Ghost. I feel stupid when it comes to details in politics. However, I do like to participate….when I am not feeling stupid.
Too many comments over there… my comment would be moot now.
He’s way too popular! But he’s an awesome inspiration!
I have a thing for underdog people…but I love people all the same!
It’s good to see people like him and Aidan wanting to spread the growth of leaders in the Deaf Community and showing (signing) actions that have already been taken, as well as suggestions and ideas.
Teri, you are a terrific teacher too for the Deaf Community!
Like Gary said, there are a lot of characters in the Deaf Community who have something to offer.
Me… hmm…. I like to be a supporter of the Deaf Community and DeafRead!

I enjoy seeing all of your zen stories. I don’t know much of them and appreciate your taking the time to share them with us.
The issue that Joey and you brought up is very important and we all need to take time aside to ponder these things. I know many people have lives and time is so precious, however, we all need to be more proactive in improving and contributing to postitiveness of deaf culture. We need leaders as well as followers. We don’t need people to put fuel to fire that spews nothing but negatives.
I know also, that many, like me has put the deaf community on hold while raising kids. I’m not a full time mom, but also a full time working mom and time is so precious. (for those of you, like Teri who takes on lot more, I’m impressed!) Now that my youngest is a teenager, I’m finding I have a little bit of more time to do things for myself and I have LOTS of personal stuff I want to do. I have been thinking a lot and hope to also take time to do things for others in the deaf community.
We all know times have changed and deaf culture has evolved.
Some are good and some are bad. we need to figure out what caused some of the changes and work towards improving the quality of deaf lives.
We can’t afford to sit back and think, oh, not worry, have other people do that… from some of the people I’ve talked to, Deaf community do need all of you! Learn to work together in harmony and learn to compromise when working with someone who’s personality clashes with yours. It can be done.

I like your Zen story, Teri.
I think that there are many ways we can train leaders - one is to lead by example. Another is to establish local/state deaf camps to train our deaf youth in leadership issues.
Many, many things we can do!

I am writing since I do not find your email address here. Anyway, I have a question. Do you have Zen story for a guy who is very skillful or very intelligent that he is rarely challenged, if ever. And he despairs because he is not challenged, either physically or intellectually. Can you help out please? Thanks!

Teri,
Very good Zen story! I just learned a sign for successor. Thanks..
I’ve noticed each v/bloggers do have a talents. Useful talents are very important so all of us can learn each other. Talents are never boring.
Same with apply to all of us have that kind of talents we don’t know or knew a thing.

Interesting perspective! I want to see more positive the Deaf community look for the Deaf Leadership in every 50 states. The problem i see some states does not have the deaf leader in their home state. I love zen’s story.

Hi!
I do appreciate getting the comments from you. I am darn busy this week to read and leave comments. It is the time of year — many school events. I will take time to read your comments and answer if needed after this weekend.

Hi Teri.
I just wrote a blog post called: “See How We Shine,” that mentioned your vlog above and the impact it has had on the deaf community already.
You might want to give it a look. at: http://www.earofmyheart.com/wordpress/?p=136

If the Deaf community broke their habit of buring the talented and kind deaf people, the time of the community would be ahead instead of being backward.
I have tried and am not allowed to do things such as glorifying school or community so I gave up.
Sorry….

That’s exact what happened to me. Unexpectedly, I was appointed by national hearing union officers to become a deaf representative for western regional. I do have talents and know how to run things. I gained a lot of experience and my self esteem really blossomed. I did not realize that deaf people do need leaders like us.

Hi all -
Very true about the “dark horses” leaders. In my perspective, everyone is a leader but in their own different ways. We were not given enough opportunities in the past to learn more about ourselves and how can each of us make the difference in our community.
Hope more leadership training for Deaf people will show up in our communities because it is badly needed. I can see that our vlogs are already pushing some organizations to think differently and find ways to train Deaf people.
Hope it wont be too long before we see one!
