Joey Baer & Chris Corrigan! What a Pair!

Hey Deaf Dish readers,

Thank you for being so patient and waiting for my return. I hate to say this . . . it is really from hiatus to hiatus – out here on my blog just for a couple of minutes. I am still working on the graduate school stuff. A lot of readings, writings, and projects. Hopefully, I will complete them all before the end of this month.

Oh my! I tell you this past two week not being able to blog was slow and somewhat boring. Not totally boring mind you, but I found myself sitting here before the screen doing homework, checking emails, and researching via the Internet each and every day. I was tempted to do a blog especially after getting a surprise from someone you know (Yes, someone you know very well).

A couple of days ago I received an AWESOME email from Joey Baer, an awesome friend (I know I said it twice) and the father of ASL vLogland. He sent me these way cool pictures taken by Cat Cassidy when Chris Corrigan visited the Bay Area for the Deaf Gala last December.

I thought you folks might enjoy these awesome (Yes, I said it thrice) pictures.  Remember the poll I did way back in Oct or Nov.  2006 – sometime during the Gallaudet protest– “Who is the Sexist Deaf Man Alive?"

Should I create a new canvass looking for some potential deaf male bloggers or vloggers to be voted as the Sexist Deaf Male Blogger/vLogger? Not such a bad idea, is it?  Nominations?  Email me or leave a comment with names.

Be back soon.

PS: I promise I will reply all the comments left on my blog SOON!

Update: I now realize it is not worth to set up a poll. Joey will win with flying colors. :)

I’d definitely vote for chris Corrigan. What I’d give for a date with him! Heh.

Love your blog. One thing really bothers me about your latest entry… Joey is NOT the father of vlogs. There are some who had vlogs way before him. Its shameful to give him all the credit. Its also misleading and an insult to those who came before him.

  3. SKE Says:

    Oh Terry!!!

Thank you for the AWESOME pictures of sexy men!!! Glad that you are coming back to blog/vlog! I miss you soOOO MUCH!!!

  4. Brian Riley Says:

Joey had the most influence, so he deserves to be called *the* “Father of ASL vLogland.” Anyone before him can be called *a* father.

Did you know the first president of our country was a man named John Hanson? He even called himself the “President of the United States” on written documents. I think I read that George Washington agreed that John Hanson was the first president.

In spite of that, George Washington is still called the “Father of Our Country”–even though he was not the first “father.”

I am glad that you’re back! In my opinion, Joey and Chris are one of the most inspiring Deaf Male.

    :)

I saw the polls last time, but didn’t vote.

Sorry, gotta be faithful to hubby - he’s the SEXIST man!

But “Deaf”? Ummm…I guess I could “sneak” a vote here! Hehe!

Good to see you, even for a minute - but get back to graduate school!! It’s important that you do very well and we’ll celebrate online! :D

Ahem, I’d better get back to studying myself… :)

Awesome pictures, Terri - really awesome of you to blog about it!

Gotta say that one more time…AWESOME!! :D

    Terri,

Which graduate program are you studying in? Love your b/vlog, and curious what you’re studying and where…

  8. Robert Says:

I like Joey Baer’s vlogs but also have to agree that it is unfair to call him Father of Deaf vLogs. Many came before him. Just happened that he became most popular due to the protest. If no Gally protest, I guarantee no one would know who he was. Let’s not re-write history. Others came before him.

    Hey Teri!

I agreed with other commentors that we miss you. It’s always good to read your new entries. They are always fresh, not too boring or unvarying. There are so many similar issues in many blogs. They become uninteresting sometimes.

I must tell you that I also miss seeing you in videos. I notice you lean toward blogging, not vlogging. As Joey’s comment left on your blog sometime a while ago, you need to do more vlogs. ASL! You sign beautifully. Use that talent, Teri.

Good luck with your graduate study. By the way, how could you do it all? You must have a type A personality. You should do vlogs on your life. It is so interesting! Hope to meet you one day soon and share your secrets.

  10. Jean Boutcher Says:

John Hanson? You mean John Hancock? People wanted him to be president, but the elites wanted George Washington because of the aristocratic lineage that GW descended from. Reason for me to ask is because I gave a presentation about the life of John Hancock at my DAR chapter in 1980s.

Whichever you are still right, Brian. I would regard Joey Baer the Father of Vlogland. It is his vlog has a greater impact on the deaf community.

  11. Rob W. Says:

welcome back.. and about time! :) the next time you peek in here to see what everyone says, be sure to paste on the award for the best design in blogs. I think you won best design in the votes - Joey won the best for politics and best video blog. Where’s your ’sticker’? Huh? Huh?

now you may go back to your studies. *grins*

  12. tokumbo Says:

Good Idea Teri. you and other bloggers and readers should vote to give sexiest deaf men nominations and give them the awards and honors for being sexiest deaf men and being best bloggers and Vbloggers. also give awards and honors to sexiest deaf women too? why not have award ceremony to honor nominees and candidates for awards/honors? or name them as newest hottest in deaf community?it would be interesting and fascinating.

  13. RLM Says:

I like to correct Brian Riley’s historical inaccurate fact. John Hanson NEVER was the President of the United States!! John Hanson was elected as the President of the Contentinal Congress for the Thirteen Colonies, not the United States!

The U.S. Constitution was created later due to the disfranchisment among the different 13 colonies - different 13 countries with their own tarriffs, currencies and borders, not really the unifed country. That’s why the colonists decided for the new form of “centralized” government to be responsible for the interstate commerce and national defense. The Contentinal Congress failed miserably in many ways for not able to collect and pay off the war debts from the Revolutonary War and past debts. All 13 colonies bickered over whether they ought to pay their dues for war debts and other interests.

George Washington was happened to be the first “commander in chief” and President under the U.S. Constitution. John Hanson was often overlooked as the so-called first elected leader of our country independent from the Mother England.

Yes, Hanson was elected before George Washington to lead the national government. Washington made the real impact on the success of the American democracy and national leadership unlike Hanson.

Joey Baer surely made a profound impact on the Deaf Blogsphere like introducing the tone of civility and straight messages on his vlogs. He was the first to call his vlog - ASL Vlog. He was somewhat the first person to make the vlog presentations nationally in regard to the Gally protest. Jon Lamberton was the first person coined “vlog” on his experimental blog.

Before closing my blog comment, everyone is beautiful and sexy regardless of our external appearance.

  14. First Time Commentor Says:

    Teri!

When I read all those comments about Joey, something struck me. I wanted to say something.

This is my first time leaving you a comment. I feel bad for not speaking up or making a comment on your blog. I do not write comments on any blogs anyway. I do not know why.

I want you to realize you are the first female deaf vlogger. I recalled you had a vlog up and running right after the announcement Joey made of his first vlog. He is the father and you are the mother of ASL vlogland. You supported his idea and helped spread the concept across the deaf community. You did many vlogs last spring and for FSSA.

You are the mother. Mother Teresa. ;)

    Please lean back to vlog.
