Admittedly, I chuckled when I first saw the picture sent by a dear friend of mine. I know that obesity is not a laughing matter. I have to put in two cents.
Whether it is French food or McDonald meal, we can still get fat or thin!
First, I have often been asked how did not I ever become obese even after giving ten births. Mind you, I am still about twelve pounds over my ideal weight -the leftover from the last two pregnancies. I am still working on it, and this time is not as easy and quick as the old days in my 20’s and 30’s.
Are there any secrets? I often tell people I do not have any special tips but one big advice. This is what is always open and available to us. Oops! I am afraid it is not only one solution, however it is the most important of all. There are some valuable advices. I will tell you another time. Let’s focus on that no. 1 recommendation.
Many of us do not listen our mother or/and grandmother. They echo this word, “moderation”. That’s the simple open secret. When I was little, I was often scolded for eating two or three scoops of ice cream, even a big platter of healthy food voraciously -like a pig. My deaf grandmother often said that having one ball of ice cream is enough and not to devour food too fast. She was right.
Viola! Eating slowly and in moderation is the key to staying slim.
Up to this day, she still talks about how people live and eat nowadays – in the fast lane. Also she DOES think that we, the people of this generation are either bad or stupid. Yes, she is such an old-fashioned elder, however I do agree that we live in a constant haste.
Not all the people are idiots, just that they are ignorant of the time, life, and weight management, and how to be on a well-balanced diet– not to relying on fast food restaurants or processed foods all the time. Today we race around looking for short cuts and making bad choices justifying our bad habits by saying we have no time to fix healthy or homemade meals.
Keep in mind, it‘s okay to grab a hamburger or pop a frozen food package in a microwave sometimes — no, I mean very seldom. My family? me? We rarely go out for fast food, or buy frozen, processed, or canned food. Truly am I grateful for having such a wonderful husband, who cooks hearty cuisine almost everyday –be it French, Nouvelle, Italian, Irish, Thai, Chinese, Japanese (including homemade sushi), American, even from “nothing”. Eating variety of food is one of the commandents of living in moderation.
Hang on your grandmother(mother)’s word. Adopt a moderate lifestyle.
Bon appetit!
